■ Development history, v1.0 to v3.15

│ AMOS started as an idea. An idea of being able to salvage data that would
· otherwise be lost. I thought this was a great idea, and contacted IBM for
· some technical doc on HPFS. "The doc for HPFS is classified", I was told.
· I was unable to breach this barrier (Does it have something to do with
Microsoft's rights on HPFS?), so AMOS is all my own work.
Without documentation, it is pretty hard to write a program for accessing and
even writing HPFS-drives. And very easy indeed to trash drives, making them
unreadable, OS/2 unbootable, and the like. Which is why AMOS has been such
a long time underway, and which is also why nobody but my beta-testers saw
AMOS until the v1.0 release.
Having written AMOS v1.x, the next step naturally is to include HPFS drives
in the normal DOS drive lettering scheme using a TSR. This is AMOS v3,
which is still read/only, and will probably remain that way for quite a
while. Supporting the structures necessary for writing HPFS drives is
costly in terms of memory...
To make AMOS, hundreds of hours of work have been used. Most of the time
has been used in a sector-editor, trying to figure out the cryptic ways
of HPFS.
Enjoy!
■ Release history of AMOS v3

│
│ v3.15 Released 29. nov 1994
· - When opening a file in a directory where a FindFirst/Next
· sequence was running, a few files were not found. Fixed.
· + Added a bit of speed. Best performance so far: Up to twice
the speed of OS/2.
+ Added support for up to 8 physical hard disks.
+ Enhanced use of real memory. There is what I think may be
a bug in SCAN v2.1.3, causing AMOS v3.10 to run real slow.
v3.10 Released 18. nov 1994
- Fixed a bug causing some files in very large directories
not to be reported.
- Increased memory requirement to 41968 bytes. Sad, but true.
- Fixed a bug in the DOS SeekFromEOF function.
+ Enhanced speed by a significant amount. AMOS now sometimes
beats OS/2!
+ Cache handling rewritten to be smaller and much more efficient.
+ Added SWREG identification number for CompuServe users.
+ Removed comparative benchmark figures from documentation.
v3.01 Released 07. nov 1994.
- Fixed a bug in the -i parameter causing some files not to be shown
- Fixed a bug in CloseFile, sometimes causing applications
using DosDupHandle to crash
+ Improved performance a bit.
+ Reduced memory requirements by about 2k to 40720 bytes.
+ Removed some typos in the documentation.
+ Added benchmark tests to the documentation.
+ Updated OZ.REG to include the correct address.
v3.0 Released 05. nov. 1994. First public release.
